Charriol Watches

Friday, August 14th, 2009 by yelena

Being one of the largest makers of the wristwatches in the entire world, Phillipe Charriol, the founder of Charriol is also one of the first few people who started creating own name boutiques. Charriol had stores worldwide, and with the advancement in technology, it is much easier now to get your hands on these luxury watches.

I am personally mesmerized by most of the watches by their unique appearance and texture of the straps. Here are three of my favorite!

Kucha

Kucha

For the ladies, i greatly recommend Kucha! Notice the claw-like design on the watch face?

Inspired by the African Savannah and a sense of freedom stirring the traveler. Tawny vistas, fierce warriors and proud nations with their identity still intact. Untamed instincts intermingle with the intoxicating, mysterious power of nature. A constant struggle, a world of danger: indomitable spirits, make your move! Nature at her wildest, where life is played out in a primitive, often cruel environment – only your intuition is between you and defeat. It’s time to use your claws …

Do you know that in Swahili, “Kucha” means claws? That’s how the watch got its name!

I am amazed at how the designer get the inspiration of this watch that truly reflects the mysterious power of nature. It does look dangerous and most importantly, unique. I really like the size of the watch face. So small that it looks good even on the skinniest hands or on the bigger wrists. I guess this has alot to do with the proportion of the watch face; with the size being small and squarish and the width being thicker.

On top of this, the dial is made of pink mother of pearl, which shines at every move with femininity. Even the straps seem to glow. The watch strap is made of Nil Perch leather, a kind of extremely huge fish, with a deploying buckle that shows only a sleek piece of metal when worn. Quartz movement is used, as well as a steel case. Charriol font is also engraved on the sides of the button.

If you dont fancy pink, the white Kucha looks just as pretty too!

Actor

Kucha is meant for the ladies but this Actor is unisex.

A collection of watches, launched in 1997, immediately recognizable with a case, engineered from a solid stainless steel block, fastened by four apparent screws and an adjusting and setting mechanism adorned with a shackle.

I like the details of the watch; it really reflects on how thoughtful the designer is, how much effort is put into creating this watch, making it exclusive and different. The shackle, especially, is totally unexpected. Loving the way how classy this particular watch looks like, the contrast between the black dial and arabic silver numerals and the crocodile skin leather strap. Completed with Quartz movement and steel case, this is definitely staying with you for years!

Timeless, classy, unique, detailed, high quality. What more do you ask for?

The Force

The Force

The Force is one of the Charriol watches Apple Bazaar is carrying. Featuring an oval dial horizontally positioned at the heart of a tonneau-shaped structure with elegantly discreet blued screws on the bezel, The Force steel watch collection expresses its sporting chic profile for females. Its other unique factor is the mother of pearl dial and contrasting colors of the numbers for both the men and the women. It’s not the usual identical couple watches you see in common shops. The male watch features prune colored numerals and the ladies in sea green.

Also, to express masculinity and femininity, the watch face for the male is made bigger and thicker in width while the ones for the females are thinner, more delicate looking and smaller in size.

There are more than these three watches Apple Bazaar is offering under Charriol! Do click on the tab below to shop now and to view more pictures and information of Charriol watches and also, don’t forget to check out the other brands as well!

What is a Chronograph Watch?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 by yelena

primo watches

What is a Chronograph Watch?
A chronograph is a timepiece or a watch with multiple functions; namely, timekeeping and stopwatch functions.

History of the Chronograph Watches
‘Chronos’ and ‘graph’ refers to ‘time’ and ‘writing’ in Greek. A chronograph is a time-measuring device which contains a mechanism that permits to stop at least one hand to expedite the reading of the elapsed time.

The chronograph was invented by Rieussec, a Frenchman in 1821. In fact, the only timepiece that was named Chronograph was this. It was written on the dial attached to the index. The dial may function as a stopwatch. A patent was given to him in 1822.

In the 1910s, the chronograph, also known as the stopwatch, was proposed as a wrist watch. As time passes, the popularity or these watches increased. In the early 1990s, the Swatch watch company started the production of affordable and fashionable chronographs and it was well sought after by consumers. In the recent years, almost every respectable watch company has a chronograph in its collection.

Real Chronograph
Chronographs are watches that can measure time in various ways. They can be used for one or more specific time measurements besides using it for day-to-day time keeping. To allow this, the dial has several sub dials with a scale, from which the measurements can be read. A central second hand can be started and stopped, without interfering with the continuous time.

More complicated chronograph watches have a sub register for total number of hours, often located at 6 o’clock location on the dial. This will allow it to take measurements up to 12 hours. Chronograph watches have a relatively complicated movement and this applies to even the simpler chronograph watches.

david_beckham202201024

The Sporting Image
Stopwatches were used mainly by sportsmen and the military in the past. Because of their profession, they had to be able to measure the time of various events precisely. Therefore, using a chronograph was a practical choice.

In a sports event, the difference between Gold and Silver award winner is very often a matter of hundredths of a second. Mechanical watches are unable to measure this, so quartz chronographs are used.

To racing enthusiasts, a stopwatch with tachometer is very useful. A tachometer will automatically indicate the speed in kilometers per hour.

Divers have their own time piece as well. Their basic requirement is that the case is waterproof. That is why a diver’s chronograph has round pushers, a screw on crown, and a screw back case which is provided with rubber gasket-rings to keep water out. At a depth of 30 meters there is hardly any daylight penetrating, so luminescent numerals and hands on a dark dial are necessary.

The most important feature of any diver’s watch is the diving ring. This is a rotating bezel around the dial or the crystal. It is divided in minutes and often has a triangular fluorescent marking at 12. Before divers take to the water, they have calculated the time they can spend under water.

Pollini-Fall-Fashion-2009-001_runway

Fashion
In the present, wearing a chronograph is a matter of taste, rather than profession. The chronograph is becoming a fashion statement. However, they are also used in daily life situations like making a cup of instant noodles, which requires a rather accurate timing otherwise noodles will turn out either too turgid or too flaccid. The biggest appeal of the chronograph is probably the exciting and sportive image, as it is the watch for astronauts, car racers and pilots. These professions are known to be more adventurous.

Besides those who chose functionality or image, there is a small group of enthusiasts (collectors) that considers the movement to be the most beautiful part of the watch. You will know more about this if you have seen a chronograph watch opened.

As a rule, a chronograph is more expensive than a normal or automatic watch, due to the complexity and craftsmanship necessary for manufacturing.

Primo Watches: Chronograph and Square Collection

Thursday, July 16th, 2009 by yelena

As mentioned in the previous post, Primo watches are contemporary fun watches which are influenced and inspired by high end watch houses.

In this post, I’m going to emphasize more on two of the more popular collections; the Chronograph and the Square collection.

Have you watched the movie, Terminator 3? The lead actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, was wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Offshore.

Primo watches

AP Offshore

The Audemars Piguet Royal Offshore watches looks manly but it’s not only meant for the big man. It looks just as great on the ladies!

AP Offshore

However, this particular Audemars Piguet Royal Offshore watches are retailing for more than 18k! It may look stunning but it is definitely going to burn a hole in that pocket of yours!

Primo Chronograph Collection watches inspired by Audemars Piguet Offshore watches and only retailing for over SGD400. This does not mean that Primo Chronograph Collection watches are of inferior material! The Primo Chronograph Collection watches are of stainless steel base and rubber-clad straps. Not forgetting it is water resistant too.

Primo watches chronograph collection 3Primo watches chronograph collection 4

Primo watches have a variety of different watches in different designs and colours. This Primo Chronograph collection does come in a few other colours and one of them is bronze.

The rubber-clad straps gives the user a more sporty look and comfortable at the same time, while the steel watch face gives a more masculine touch. In addition, the buttons are not your usual circular shape too. These details brings life to the watches.

Rubber-Clad watch straps prevents watches from slipping down which I personally think is much more comfortable to wear. I wouldn’t like to adjust my watch so often.

Therefore, another watch I highly recommend is the Primo Watches Square Collection.

This collection is inspired by Cartier Santos 100.

From the Primo watches Square Collection featuring not only the rubber-clad straps, it also features on the transparent watch face from the side angle and it’s water resistant properties. Details of Primo logo engraved on the buckle of the watches and the studs surrounding the face makes this Primo Square Collection more unique and dressy. Suitable for both the men and women.
