Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 by macinger84Personal computers which are usually running the Windows operating system from Microsoft is the most popular platform that most people use, but it is not necessarily the best as it is prone to a lot of problems that causes headaches to user and sometimes even lost data and income. The Mac is Apple’s response to the PC. Macs used to operate on a different architecture as the PC but they have now moved to Intel as a provider of their hardware.
The advantage of Windows PCs is in its flexibility and the huge number of software that can be installed on it. Because majority of people who are using computers use Windows, there is a lot of incentive for programmers to build programs in that platform. But this advantage also results to a vulnerability that malicious people can take advantage of to exploit your computer and even cause a lot of damage to your files; malware. Malware is the collective term for virus, worms, trojans, scripts, and many other types of code that tries to gain access and wreck havoc on your files. This problem is aggravated by a lot of security flaws in the Windows operating system that makes it quite easy for malware to hide itself while removing certain features or capabilities in your computer.
Macs are not that prone to this problem compared to the PC. Because Macs only represent a small fraction of the computers in the world, malicious people do not pay as much attention to it as they cannot cause as much damage as when they target PCs with Windows. Macs are also pretty secure making it quite difficult even for the most persistent programmer to exploit. This is also true when it comes to software you can install, as there are much fewer options in Mac compared to PCs.
With every release, Apple makes sure that their software and hardware works flawlessly. This is the reason why upgrading with Macs is often a hassle free experience unlike with Windows. Microsoft does not control the hardware that are used with their operating system. This often leads to incompatibilities and numerous problems once you try to move from one Windows OS to another. If you do a little research, you can find out which versions of the Windows operating system were hated by the general public.
If you want a new computer that you can use for your work or pleasure, and you want it to be reliable, a Mac is an excellent option. Not to mention that Macs often look much better than PCs.
