If you live in a place with four seasons or somewhere that can get extremely cold that it snows, then you are no stranger to the color white.  The first few snowfalls during wintertime are always enchanting, as tiny, white flakes fall out of nowhere and blanket a whole area with snow.  This is probably how the term “winter wonderland” was coined.  Of course, if you do not see anything else but snow, you will slowly begin to resent not being able to experience other colors.

White is a predominant color in nature.  Snow and ice are just the best representations of it.  The clouds on a clear day are also white.  Some flowers like roses, jasmine, chrysanthemums and daisies have their white varieties.  Animals such as the polar bears are white, which enables them to camouflage themselves because the place where they live has nothing but ice and snow, all white.  Ordinary cats and dogs may also be white and countless other animals have patches of white in their bodies.

It is interesting to note, however, that white is actually not a color.  (more…)

Black is Beautiful

Monday, November 9th, 2009 by Lena

Black may be the most misunderstood color. First, black is not a “color” for strictly speaking black is the absence of color. Confused? Don’t be. Whether black is officially or unofficially a color, well, black is still beautiful.

No self-respecting fashionable woman can do without that “little black dress”. That LBD can be worn in any occasion – formal or informal. It used to be that black was a taboo color for some cultures. For the Chinese, you can’t wear black in weddings as it’s the traditional color for little boys. In Chinese culture black is associated with winter, water and north. For the Native Americans, black is good for it is the color of soil. As in the East and most of the Western cultures, black is the color of sadness and mourning.

If black is not a color, how do we term it then? Black.

Paint a room black and you visually contract the space

Black is many faceted as it can mean a myriad of things. It is well liked by women as it has a slimming effect. Paint a room black and you visually contract the space. Place black side by side to another  color and the other color becomes brighter. Black is negative as it’s positive. Villains were always shrouded in black. Rebellious teeners were always dressed in Gothic black – that is, in the movies. Funny how the good guys always wore white while the bad guys always wore black.

The colors of the spectrum have the power to make you look healthy or unhealthy; happy or sad; even short or tall. The color is like a key that unlocks a certain compartment in your personality and that of your entire being. Those who can’t actually see colors or those who are color blind can often feel their vibratory effects because colors have energy. Color energy is especially strong if one is wearing red or yellow. If yellow is your favorite color, you’ve made a good choice because yellow radiates and stimulates the intellect and imagination.

Color Me Blue

Blue is the colour of the sky

Blue is the colour of the sky

Blue is a natural color as in the sky above us. It is the most popular color amongst the cool tones of green, turquoise, lavender, gray and white. The color has a calming and nurturing effect but on the other end the cool color could also signify that which is cold and impersonal. However, blue is still highly associated with peace, tranquility, and serenity. Too much blue could dampen your spirits and create feelings of sadness.

Is Red Your Favorite Color?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 by Lena

There are two basic classifications of colors: warm and cool. Warm colors are the reds, oranges and yellows and anything in between while cool colors are the blues, greens and violets and their resulting combinations. Warm colors are said to perk us up and keep us going while cool colors are soothing and calming. Of all the warm colors, red is probably the most used and most popular.
