Network USB Hub

Friday, October 9th, 2009 by macinger84

Wireless networking is no longer a difficult and complex thing. We can now connect just about anything wireless. But even if our laptops and PDAs can connect to our network without wires, we still have some accessories that we need to connect, making being wireless ironic since you are still wired. The most common device that we need to access is the printer. Although we don’t use it all day, it might be a little bit more convenient if you can simply send your files to the printer without having to go there and plug your laptop in. The usual solution before is to have a printer installed to a computer then share it on the network but this is impractical as you would need to keep that computer on even when no one is using it.

Although it might seem like there is no real solution to the problem, along came the Network USB Hub. This device is not a router, thus you would still need to have a router whether its wireless or not. The Netwok USB Hub attaches to your router and lets you connect up to 5 USB devices that users on your network can share. This works extremely well for printers as it is like having a printer directly connected to your laptop or computer. Your laptop sees the printer and sends the files directly to it.

Aside from printers, you can also attached storage media like NAS (Network Attached Storage). If you have a hard drive that has an enclosure and can connect via USB, you can attach that to the network USB hub and the files on it can readily be accessed by anyone. This is great in workplaces where you need to pass files around or keep backups. Even at home, you can use it to store family photos, videos, and you can then open them with your laptop, computer, or even your media player that has an ethernet port.

The network USB hub is not limited to working with these two types of devices as you can connect almost anything to it. You can have a card reader that anyone can use or a dock for your music players and even a scanner. This means that you would not have to buy identical devices for each person who needs one or be frustrated looking around for the card reader and who is using it. Everything can be set into a single place and everyone can just go there to make use of them. This is not only convenient but also economical.
