Airsoft Safety Measures

Thursday, September 24th, 2009 by macinger84

Airsoft is one of the most popular games in the world today. Part of its allure comes from the boyhood dream of becoming a top notch, macho soldier. So it is not surprising that some, if not most, of the people playing Airsoft are those who have also been playing computer war games like counterstrike or battlefield. Playing an Airsoft game is usually done in large groups and with very strict rules in order to prevent injury to the players and spectators. Games are usually between two parties with a certain objective to accomplish depending on the type of game being played. The battles can also range from short skirmishes to long drawn out battles.

The guns that are used in Airsoft are not really real, but are a very close approximation of the real thing. They are either gas or electric powered and can fire either rubber bullets or paint balls. Though these guns are not real, they still pack a punch and welts are not that uncommon. There are even rules that prohibit players from indiscriminately firing or firing at point blank range as injuries might result. For kills at close range, players are instructed to simulate a knife kill by tapping the shoulder of their enemy. All players are also required to wear body armor that are stiff and thick enough to withstand the impact. The closest thing that can be compared to this type of body protection goggles is the type that pro bikers use when racing.

The full armor includes a vest, pants, leggings, arm guards, boots, and gloves. Most parts of the body protection goggles are made out of the same material that is both hard and lightweight. That is aside from the protection  goggles. You won’t be much of a player if you can’t see, therefore you would need to have a see through barrier that both prevents bullets from entering while still providing you with a wide range of vision.

Players use full face masks or goggles that are really solid. Although this might be a hindrance to your field of vision, protecting your eyes is of utmost importance as a direct hit would surely result in blindness or any other permanent injury. It is no longer enough to wear those thin eye goggles that are often used by BMX riders as they shatter real easy and the shrapnel can go directly to your eyes. In order to ensure maximum safety, eye  goggles that are made out of the right thickness and made of the right materials, not just cheap plastic. There are also a lot more areas to cover other than the eyes. You should also watch out for hits on the head and the neck. You can also get full face helmets and neck protectors to maximize your protection.
