However, it’s not about iPods, capsule speakers like the ones being offered by Divoom and X-mini, and it is certainly not about those who are hooked at listening to their favorite songs on their iPods. This is all about those who don’t mind downloading free music through the internet. In other words, what we are going to talk about is music piracy.

Just skim through the pages of history and you will find the issue of music piracy creating problems for all artists. Even in the late 70’s, when disco imploded and punk exploded, there was the pressing issue of music piracy. This practice is all about selling copyrighted music for free, or for pennies. This situation is hurting all artists as they are not making as much money as they should be. That’s demoralizing for them. Also, there are companies who hold copyrights to 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s music, much of which still has a better demand than many of the recently released fare. All in all, this music piracy is creating a deadly effect on music industry.

What’s important to know is that all this is happening just because of those people who don’t mind a compromising music quality but don’t want to pay anything for it. The amazing thing is that there are many people who are of the view that downloading music for free is stealing, but they also argue that this ‘stealing’ will continue no mater what industry experts do to stop it. No doubt, there are different steps being taken by government and record industry to discourage this practice of stealing music, but most of these efforts are yet to produce good results. There are rules and regulations, but then there are new technologies that allow these file-swappers work anonymously. The only thing the record industry is counting on is that people will buy from user-friendly online retailers which will be a reason for illegal file swapping dropping out of favor.

The fact of the matter is that music piracy is a serious issue, and though many people are well-aware of it, they do nothing to stay away form it. What people don’t want to understand is that intellectual property such as videos and music files should not be offered for free. It is mainly due to this particular fact that independent record stores are closed and songwriters and performers are losing a large portion of their royalties. All this is just due to those who smile after downloading a music file for free. This is not the right thing to do, especially if you’re a music lover.
