Christmas may be one of the festive times of the year, but it is also one of the most stressful.  The traffic on the streets build up, parties left and right, the malls are packed and we roam the shopping aisles aimlessly, trying to find the perfect gifts for our loved ones.  What do you do, though, if you absolutely have no idea what you recipients would like for Christmas?   Buying gifts can be a daunting task.  Hopefully, the following suggestions may be able to help you if you are stuck on a gift ideas.

Buying gifts for men is easy, if you know their hobbies.  If your recipient spends a lot of time playing video games, for example, then getting him a new console may make a good Christmas gift.  That is, if he does not already have one or he is using an old model.  The new Playstation and Xbox consoles are now available.  If he already has them, then maybe something to enjoy the games further would be the next step.  He would still be quite happy to get a couple of new games like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas or Call of Duty 4.

So, you are one of those people who think the life is incomplete without an iPod or a portable music player. Well, it’s common to see such people in the world around you. It feels like a new trend. But, do you know what the latest trend is? Get capsule speakers and rock the night with your friends!

This is all about those who don’t mind downloading free music through the internet. In other words, what we are going to talk about is music piracy.

Wonder Speakers – Capsule Speakers

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 by mac

Technology can indeed do miracles. It can convert the biggest of things into the tiniest of structures, and still work with equal efficiency. The current creations from XMI Singapore are a testimony to that. From a time when we were irritated because of bulky speakers having long wires and cords, XMI has now brought to us a new era of capsule speakers. These speakers, as the name suggests are tiny little structures that can easily fit in your palm, but can still give clear sound for the entire room.

X-mini II, one of the product models falls into the category of the company’s second generation devices. It maintains all the good features of the 1st generation models, and has other improved facilities to make the audio experience clear and good. It consists of a larger 40mm driver, which gives great sound quality. The capsule design of the speaker further enhances this, and offers both – individual as well as group entertainment.

Headphones or Earphones?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009 by Lena

In the current society of IPod and Mp3 technology, consumers have come to be discerning with their choices of headphones and or earphones. There are more models and brands coming out on the market on a regular basis that choosing one has become a quite daunting task. Flash back to the 1950s. The first ever headphone for a portable music gadget was invented in 1958. The suitcase-size portable phonograph did not catch on but the headphone that came with it became a hot commodity since it supported stereo sound and was designed specifically for listening to music. From then on headphones technology caught on like wild fire in the world of movie and recording studios. The headphones were large and totally cumbersome. It was not until the 1980s that the headphones assumed a lighter and portable “look” as people trot around with their portable Walkman.

The evolution of headphone designs continued. For one, they are no longer called headphones. The gadget is known as a headset, earphones, earbuds, stereophones or the hipper and cooler “cans “. The headset is combination earphone and microphone geared to instant communication via the internet or any two-way communication module.

All portable music and video players are equipped with its own earphone or headphone. For the sake of economics, earphones are the likely minute speakers included in an Mp3 or iPod. More often than not, the earphones do not last and the iPod or Mp3 owner is left with the option of buying a new pair of “mini loudspeakers”. Which one would is the better option, a headphone or an earphone?

Headphones have large cups that cover the entire ear. The headphone is worn like a headband and new models are lightweight. The cups that serve as the listening device are designed for ergonomics so that it can be worn for hours on end without feeling uncomfortable. Some models have volume control too. Though the device is still quite bulky for use in jogging and other such sports, a headphone is safer to use as it does not blare sound inside your ear. There are noise canceling headphones and you can practically be deaf to outside sound. The sound you get from a headphone is a left and right balance and if truth be told the acoustic quality is better.

Earphones or earbuds are listening devices that you plug right outside your ear canal. The sound produced is more isolated and sorts of reverberates inside your head rather than from an outside source. You can opt to set the music player volume on low and you won’t have a problem with clarity. However, since it has no noise cancelling feature but can minimize outside background noise, you have to turn on the volume if you can’t hear well due to external noise. The earphone is so portable and “invisible” you can wear them anywhere, anytime doing any form of activity, water sports and activity excluded (at least for now).

So which is the better choice? The decision depends on the user and the activity it is intended for.

Was MJ the First King of Pop? Find Out by Yourself

Monday, October 5th, 2009 by mac

Music is like a food for soul, and it is true especially when you’re down and out. If you’re in a sad mood, just play a CD of your favorite musician and you’ll feel better. But, the music is not only for those occasions when you feel blue; in fact, there is a genre for all occasions. That’s one of the reasons why you can find everyone holding an iPod while on the move.

When it comes to pop music, you just can’t forget the name, Michael Jackson. He is arguably the King of Pop, but is he the first King of Pop? May be not! Though it may not be the best time to talk about this, it is important to touch this topic because of people’s constant reference to MJ as the King of Pop. While it is true he was a King during the 1982-3, you can not use the same term right now. Yes, he is a King, but many people still takes him more as a king of weirdness, or king of shadows.

The important thing is that the title ‘The King of Pop’ is not new, but it is a notional title. It means there will always be some people who won’t agree who it should apply to. When you will skim through the pages of the history of pop music, you will see there have always been many kings. What it means is that this throne is more like a fast-revolving chair, and that’s the reason why there have been more influential and innovative artists with the special Crown. The longevity of their heyday and the breadth of their work make those artists a better star than MJ. Frank Sinatra, for instance, was the King of Pop during the 1940s; perhaps the first ever king of this genre. Go back to 1956 and you will find Elvis Presley to be the King of Pop. And, the Beatles were also the Kings of Pop, perhaps, longer than anyone else.

Billie Jean and Beat It were the two singles that made MJ a real star. This was the time when people were simply amazed by the supernatural dancing of this star. But before his ascent to this particular throne there were many others with the similar crown. Today, when Jackson is no longer here, you can call him the King of Hearts, but you should also pay tribute to those old names that were once a part of the fraternity. So, go get an Apple iPod, not only to hear Jackson, but other singers as well.
