Belkin Wi-Fi Phone for Skype

Friday, October 16th, 2009 by macinger84

Most of us know what Skype is. It is a software that lets us make PC to PC calls for free and even calls to traditional phone lines at a very discounted rate regardless of where you are and where you are calling to.

Skype takes advantage of the internet to route calls to other countries without having to pay the high toll rates that are associated with international calls.

What most people hate about using Skype is the need to sit in front of the computer in order to make calls. This is a far cry from the usual phone experience of simply picking up the handset and directly dialing the number you want to call.

A lot of VoIP phones are now available but most of them are tied to a specific VoIP service and cant usually be used with Skype. These handsets usually connect to your computer or your router and from then on would act just like a regular phone. Although they come in a wide variety of models and features, they still operate on the same principle and you would still need a LAN port wherever you want to place your handset.

Belkin has come up with a VoIP phone that gives you the benefits of a traditional telephone and the savings of a VoIP phone in a neat little package. They have also integrated support for Wi-Fi so that you have the absolute freedom when you are calling someone.

The Belkin VoIP phone also comes pre-loaded with the Skype software and is even ready to work right out of the box, given that you have a working W-Fi network and a Skype account.

Belkin Wi-Fi Phone for Skype * 54Mbps 802.11g, 400 feet

The Belkin phone is equipped with an 802.11g wireless adapter that lets you connect to any wireless router in the world. 802.11g is capable of reaching up to 54mbps in speed that is more than capable of giving you a sufficient channel for clear calls. It is also capable of using WEP, WPA, WPA2 which are encryption mechanisms that wireless networks use to minimize the possibility of intrusion. This is to ensure the maximum compatibility as you would not be able to connect to a network if your device is not capable of the security mechanism being used by the router.

The Belkin Wi-Fi phone also adopts the Skype interface that comes with the software. This is very beneficial for those who are already very familiar with the interface and you would no longer need to adopt to it. Even your contact list is downloaded automatically as soon as you enter your Skype ID and your password.

Belkin Dual Rotating USB charger

Friday, October 9th, 2009 by macinger84

The world today has become so plugged-in that it is quite assured that you would be hard pressed to find a person that owns only one portable device. We now have a whole range of portable gear that we use for our jobs or entertainment. A few examples would be our mobile phones, PDAs, music players, digital cameras, camcorders, and multimedia players. If you have these devices, then you also probably have a lot of chargers lying around. That is quite a mess and a bit difficult to keep track of.

Belkin Dual Rotating USB Charger for iPhone, iPod and other mobile phones

The Belkin Dual Rotating USB Charger is a device that aims to address our charging problems with a single  charger that can work with a lot of our portable devices and even charge more than one at a time so that you would not have to wait for one to finish and plug the next one. It uses the very popular USB female A port that you would usually find at the back of your computer. This is due to the emerging popularity of cables that allows you to plug your devices into your computer to transfer files or sync while charging the device at the same time. This uses the very same principle so that even if you lose the supplied cables, you can just purchase cables that are compatible and keep charging your device.

The two USB ports means that you can plug two different devices and charge them at the same time. This means that you are spending less time charging without having to spend extra for another charger. The rotating prong is also meant to improve the usability of this charger so that you can use it even in crowded areas as you can reposition the charger so that it would fit.

Aside from the charger body itself, it also contains a few cables that you can use to charge your devices. The first is a charge and sync cable that you can use with your iPhones or iPods. It also has a cable that ends in a mini USB connector so that you can charge other devices that uses this type of connector, including Motorola, Blackberry, and HTC to name a few. The last cable ends in a 3.5mm  connector that you can use for your iPod shuffle. All these cables are four feet long so that you have the freedom of putting your devices in a secure place while charging. All these features and flexibility options makes this charge an indispensable alternative to having multiple chargers.

Network USB Hub

Friday, October 9th, 2009 by macinger84

Wireless networking is no longer a difficult and complex thing. We can now connect just about anything wireless. But even if our laptops and PDAs can connect to our network without wires, we still have some accessories that we need to connect, making being wireless ironic since you are still wired. The most common device that we need to access is the printer. Although we don’t use it all day, it might be a little bit more convenient if you can simply send your files to the printer without having to go there and plug your laptop in. The usual solution before is to have a printer installed to a computer then share it on the network but this is impractical as you would need to keep that computer on even when no one is using it.
33

Although it might seem like there is no real solution to the problem, along came the Network USB Hub. This device is not a router, thus you would still need to have a router whether its wireless or not. The Netwok USB Hub attaches to your router and lets you connect up to 5 USB devices that users on your network can share. This works extremely well for printers as it is like having a printer directly connected to your laptop or computer. Your laptop sees the printer and sends the files directly to it.

Aside from printers, you can also attached storage media like NAS (Network Attached Storage). If you have a hard drive that has an enclosure and can connect via USB, you can attach that to the network USB hub and the files on it can readily be accessed by anyone. This is great in workplaces where you need to pass files around or keep backups. Even at home, you can use it to store family photos, videos, and you can then open them with your laptop, computer, or even your media player that has an ethernet port.

The network USB hub is not limited to working with these two types of devices as you can connect almost anything to it. You can have a card reader that anyone can use or a dock for your music players and even a scanner. This means that you would not have to buy identical devices for each person who needs one or be frustrated looking around for the card reader and who is using it. Everything can be set into a single place and everyone can just go there to make use of them. This is not only convenient but also economical.
