What’s Your Favorite Color?

Monday, September 28th, 2009 by Lena

Many preconceptions come about when it comes to the favorite colors of men and women. Many people think that man’s favorite color is blue and that women prefer pink. However, men and women are more similar than perceived, as both genders prefer blue over any other color. Furthermore, both gender’s second favorite color is green.

33Some may think that it is rather odd that women prefer blue and green because they are widely thought of as masculine colors. Men strongly relate to blue as it is oftentimes associated with intelligence, stability and authority figures. Green, on the other hand, symbolizes renewal, growth, health and the environment. Women most likely favor these colors due also to their cool nature. Many women with strong personalities also believe that feminine colors like pink and pastels are perceived to girly and not suitable for their image.

Gender preferences in color drastically change down the list, as man’s third favorite color is black. This is probably due to the fact that cultural and social norms indicate that men wear less colorful attire than women. Certainly enough, men wear black mostly during formal affairs. Women on the other hand, prefer the complete opposite. The third favorite color of women is turquoise, which is combination of blue and green. Although it is also a cool shade, men usually shy away from this color. Turquoise is followed by purple, pink and lavender in the woman’s list of favorite colors. These colors are associated with either flowers or gemstones and are widely perceived as very feminine colors. Lavender is a popular choice for women who feel that they have outgrown the innocence exuded by pink. To summarize, men generally prefer bright but cool colors, while women prefer soft or pastel colors in addition to blue and green.

Generally, men detest the color pink, despite its calming effect, because it is commonly associated with little girls that are made of sugar, spice and everything nice. Men who profess to like pink are readily teased as being gay or homosexual. In recent years, however, the growing population of metrosexual males resulted in the existence of the tagline “real men wear pink.” Before, where man’s boutiques only carry neutral and cool colors of clothes, they now also offer pink sweaters and dress shirts.

44

In the subject of clothing prints and designs that come with the colors, specific subgroups of people prefer certain colors and designs over others. Hippies, for example, prefer earthy or warm colored clothes with floral or organic designs. They would use various shades of yellow, brown and red. Chavs or youths who engage in antisocial behavior, have taken a liking to wearing black, white or blue track suits and baggy hoodies manufactured by popular sports brands. Floral patterned clothes depict a spring or summery feel and are usually worn by women, mostly during the warmer months. A certain type of floral patterned shirts in either red, blue or yellow are also worn by men, and are usually worn during vacations in tropical locations. These shirts, however, are not worn at any other time and would be deemed inappropriate.

Cyalume Chemical Light sticks

Sunday, September 27th, 2009 by macinger84

Light is a necessity at night when the sun is shining on the other side of the world. During normal days, we get our lights from fluorescent tubes or the newer CFL bulbs that consume less power. This light sources are powered by our electric company. But during emergency cases, the infrastructure that delivers electricity from the plant to our homes and offices might go down leaving us in the darkness. For these cases, we often resort to emergency lights that provides us with light for a limited time period.

11

The most common emergency lights are the rechargeable types that uses a battery to store a certain amount of electricity. This can then be used during outages for lighting or other purposes. The problem with devices that use a battery is the lifespan of the battery and whether it contains enough electricity. A battery leaks electricity all the time and it needs to be topped up all the time to maintain its full charge. This in turn slowly shortens the life span of the battery. This can lead to the emergency device to fail or have a shorter service time during the actual emergency; this is more apparent in older devices.

The Cyalume chemical light sticks do not rely on electricity in producing light, instead it uses a chemical reaction that provides light as a byproduct. Since it does not rely on electricity, it is also immune to the problems that afflicts electrical emergency lights. Cyalume light sticks can be stored for extended periods without any worries of failure; low intensity sticks can last up to four years while high intensity sticks can last for one. Usage is also fairly simple as you would only need to snap and shake the stick to start the mixing of the chemicals, it would then start to glow.

The number of applications that the Cyalume chemical light sticks can be used for is virtually limitless. Aside from emergency lighting in buildings in case the power goes out, it can also be used as markers for rescue operations. The glow of these sticks can be seen a mile away at night, making it a good addition to flares or smoke signals in a vessel, especially in seafaring vessels because it is waterproof. Aside from its practical uses, it can also be used at parties as accent lights. The wide variety of colors makes it a fun and durable light source for young people.

22

The price of each light stick might be relatively high considering that it can only be used once. But since emergencies are few and far in between, it might actually be cheaper to use these sticks instead of rechargeable lights that are much more expensive and slowly deteriorates over time. Buying in bulk should also lessen the cost; even down to almost half at the highest quantity.

How to tell if your leather bags are genuine or fake?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 by Chav

How do I know if my bag is made from real leather or synthetic Leather?
You thought you brought a genuine leather bag at a great price? Think again, you might be just be getting a fake leather bag. But how do you know which is real and which are fakes?

Often, do you see in a store selling leather products, people sniffing out the bags for that unique smell of leather. Real leather smell can be pleasant but with a kinda heady (woody) and strong smell. Fake leather or synthetic leather has a plastic smell as compared to the real one.

However, sometimes you could be tricked as some despicable merchants would easily coat their synthetic leather bags with a type of concentrated chemical spray that can make your products smell just like the real one.

Here’s what kind of leather test can you do?
- Try digging your fingernail into leather, you would leave a slowly fading imprint like would be similar to what it would look like if you tried that on your skin. You won’t get any on synthetic materials.
- Smear natural cream on any leather product, the material will absorb the nutrients of the cream, becoming softer and glossier. If you ever tried that on synthetic materials, you’ll get spots on them.
- If everything else fails, try burning your bag, or brush it quickly across a small flame. Any synthetic material would quick burn up and contract. Real leather would be able to withstand that bit of flame.

Composition Leather
Composition leather bag – sometimes, you find bags that contain a bit of leather, certify themselves leather bags. Always make sure of what you’re getting, whether it’s 5% or 100% that you want, and pay the right for the price for it. You don’t want to be paying 100% for a 5% bag.

Charriol Watches

Friday, August 14th, 2009 by yelena

Being one of the largest makers of the wristwatches in the entire world, Phillipe Charriol, the founder of Charriol is also one of the first few people who started creating own name boutiques. Charriol had stores worldwide, and with the advancement in technology, it is much easier now to get your hands on these luxury watches.

I am personally mesmerized by most of the watches by their unique appearance and texture of the straps. Here are three of my favorite!

Kucha

Kucha

For the ladies, i greatly recommend Kucha! Notice the claw-like design on the watch face?

Inspired by the African Savannah and a sense of freedom stirring the traveler. Tawny vistas, fierce warriors and proud nations with their identity still intact. Untamed instincts intermingle with the intoxicating, mysterious power of nature. A constant struggle, a world of danger: indomitable spirits, make your move! Nature at her wildest, where life is played out in a primitive, often cruel environment – only your intuition is between you and defeat. It’s time to use your claws …

Do you know that in Swahili, “Kucha” means claws? That’s how the watch got its name!

I am amazed at how the designer get the inspiration of this watch that truly reflects the mysterious power of nature. It does look dangerous and most importantly, unique. I really like the size of the watch face. So small that it looks good even on the skinniest hands or on the bigger wrists. I guess this has alot to do with the proportion of the watch face; with the size being small and squarish and the width being thicker.

On top of this, the dial is made of pink mother of pearl, which shines at every move with femininity. Even the straps seem to glow. The watch strap is made of Nil Perch leather, a kind of extremely huge fish, with a deploying buckle that shows only a sleek piece of metal when worn. Quartz movement is used, as well as a steel case. Charriol font is also engraved on the sides of the button.

If you dont fancy pink, the white Kucha looks just as pretty too!

Actor

Kucha is meant for the ladies but this Actor is unisex.

A collection of watches, launched in 1997, immediately recognizable with a case, engineered from a solid stainless steel block, fastened by four apparent screws and an adjusting and setting mechanism adorned with a shackle.

I like the details of the watch; it really reflects on how thoughtful the designer is, how much effort is put into creating this watch, making it exclusive and different. The shackle, especially, is totally unexpected. Loving the way how classy this particular watch looks like, the contrast between the black dial and arabic silver numerals and the crocodile skin leather strap. Completed with Quartz movement and steel case, this is definitely staying with you for years!

Timeless, classy, unique, detailed, high quality. What more do you ask for?

The Force

The Force

The Force is one of the Charriol watches Apple Bazaar is carrying. Featuring an oval dial horizontally positioned at the heart of a tonneau-shaped structure with elegantly discreet blued screws on the bezel, The Force steel watch collection expresses its sporting chic profile for females. Its other unique factor is the mother of pearl dial and contrasting colors of the numbers for both the men and the women. It’s not the usual identical couple watches you see in common shops. The male watch features prune colored numerals and the ladies in sea green.

Also, to express masculinity and femininity, the watch face for the male is made bigger and thicker in width while the ones for the females are thinner, more delicate looking and smaller in size.

There are more than these three watches Apple Bazaar is offering under Charriol! Do click on the tab below to shop now and to view more pictures and information of Charriol watches and also, don’t forget to check out the other brands as well!
