Global warming: what will happen if we don’t stop burning our resources and polluting our earth
Global warning is one of the biggest challenges we are facing in this 21st century. It is a huge risk to the very existence of life on earth. A lot of unnatural calamities are taking place around us as a result of this global warning. Drastic weather changes, snow caps melting, sea level rising etc are some of the changes to list.

This is one problem which is human made and it is unto us humans only to help limit the damage caused so far. The damage cannot be undone for sure but we can surely make an effort to keep it under control and help other non-human life to co-exist.
Now what is global warming? Global warming refers to increase in earth’s temperature which in turn leads climatic changes. Industrial revolution changed the way we live today. Machines have become an integral part of our lives. But apart from making our lives easier, these machines have also resulted in release of gases which in turn has lead to global warming.

Global warming is result of the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse effect is the rise in earth’s temperature due to the pollution and energy released by our machines. Pollution is the largest problem we face today. Cars and power plants emit huge amounts of harmful gases like carbon dioxide. This gets trapped in the atmosphere which leads to the warming, in turn endangering other forms of life too which is dependent on oxygen to survive. Increasing levels of carbon dioxide, results in lowering of the oxygen levels in the atmosphere. Other factors leading to earth pollution is contamination, no proper disposal of wastes and deforestation.
With deforestation, we are killing the natural air purifiers gifted to us by Mother Nature. Trees and plants remove carbon dioxide from the air thus making it purer in oxygen. With lesser trees this cycle is getting reversed. Then burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas also releases carbon dioxide into the air. With use of power, more fossil fuels are burnt. As the human population keeps growing, the demand for use of power too is increasing. In order to keep up with this more power plants are being built. As a result, more pollution taking place. In order to cut down this usage we need to shift to using other forms of energy that is the solar and wind power.

Wide use of insecticides and pesticides too have resulted in global warming. Wastes are another source of global warming. Industrial wastes dumped into lakes and oceans contaminate the area leading to mismatch of the ecosystem. This is due to the hazardous materials and gases (many a times radioactive too) released from these wastes which lead to contamination and sickness. Though the household and other regular trashes are used for landfills, did you know landfills release methane, which in turn contributes towards the greenhouse effect? Over a period of time, we will run out of space to keep them on this earth.
In order to counter effect this global warming, we can contribute by planting more trees. Use less of private cars and opt for car pool or public transport. Cut down on electrical power and opt for solar and wind power.

Plant a tree
Global warming is leading to rise in sea levels too resulting in devastating floods and calamities like earthquakes, tsunamis. Ecosystem is changing, as a result of which many species of plants and animals are either extinct or on verge of becoming extinct.

If we don’t do anything to conserve this environment, soon earth would be devoid of all its life. So get up and do your bit. Stop wastage of precious elements like water and air…. Help the future generations come into existence and lead a healthy life.
